Ceremony Ideas for Your Special Day

Please keep in mind that The Wedding Officiant /Minister comes first, and the ideal venue, cake, music, etc. are only second. Without an officiant, there is no wedding. Book me as your wedding officiant anywhere in metro Atlanta, Georgia and beyond.

I will be more than happy to attend your wedding rehearsal but keep in mind that this will incur an additional cost. Actually, I do not recommend that I attend the rehearsal because you will lose that "special moment” on the day of your wedding.

Parts of a Ceremony

Traditional ceremonies are 15-25 minutes long and include:

  • Introduction
  • Pledges
  • Love Poem
  • Vows
  • Ring Exchange
  • Pronouncement
  • Unity Candle Ceremony (Wind Permitting) or Unity Sand Ceremony
  • Unity Wine Ceremony
  • Handfasting Ceremony
  • Family Vows (Including Children, New Sibling Vows, Children's Gift Ceremony)

Ideas for the Ceremony

Unity Candle Ceremony

The Unity Candle Ceremony consists of the lighting of one candle from two separate candles held by the bride and groom. This ceremony symbolizes the union of two lives into one. Creative variations can be added to the ceremony, such as the mothers of the bride and groom, or any designated member of the wedding party. The couple may re-light the candle each year on

their anniversary.

Unity Sand Ceremony

The Unity Sand Ceremony consists of the mixing of two colors of sand. The bride and groom will mix their container of sand into a center container. This ceremony symbolizes the union of two lives into one. Creative variations can be added to the ceremony, such as their children, parents, or any designated member of the wedding family member.

Unity Wine Ceremony

This ceremony unites a sour wine with a sweet wine into one glass. The bride and groom will drink from the same glass. This ceremony symbolizes the union of two lives into one. You can also use a wine box where you can place some love letters to each other along with a bottle of wine, and open the box on one of your anniversary dates.

The Rings

The wedding ring is an outward symbol that represents the bond created through and by the love of the couple. The wedding ring tradition has existed for centuries and demonstrates evidence of the institution of marriage.

Much can be added in this portion of the ceremony usually involves the verbal participation of the bride and groom during the exchange.

Family Vows and Children's Gift Ceremony

Many couples are remarrying and want to include their children in the ceremony. There are numerous ways this may be done.

Hands Ceremony

This refers to the hands of each to one another. The officiant makes mention of the bride and groom’s hands as the hands that will comfort, nurture, care, and hold the other person in time of need. This usually takes 1 to 2 minutes.

Honoring the Mothers

This includes a brief mention and reading that usually reflects the special part the mothers have in a couple’s relationship and throughout life. A gift of a flower is presented to each mother.

Silent Blessing and Moment of Remembrance

This is a blessing honoring those who are no longer with us. The names are mentioned in remembrance of their important significance to each of the families and how their memory played a part in the establishment of the couple’s union.
